The Last Word: Drink, Eat Gather

With a non-nonsense approach to well-made drinks and reimagined comfort food, The Last Word brings a level of depth to the drinking scene in this San Francisco bedroom community. Part of a nationwide trend to bring the craft cocktail culture out of the darkened speakeasy dens and into relaxed, approachable atmospheres, Rick and Theresa Dobbs along with their team, offer up a relaxed vibe and a professed focus on allowing you to “hang out,” on your own or with friends. Hospitality is key here. Upgraded gastropub foods, like shaved brussel sprouts with chorizo and garlic, chicken and waffles, or a bleu grilled cheese sandwich feature local, seasonal and organic ingredients where possible. In addition, the bar composts nearly all its organic and paper waste, in conjunction with the city. Drinks rotate regularly, but expect standard classics, alongside inventive signature cocktails featuring fresh and local ingredients, and well-balanced character. They’re not afraid to have some fun with the drinks either: consider the lowly Boilermaker (beer and a shot): Here you’ll find the combo tweaked with the likes of butterscotch beer and green Chartreuse.
