San Francisco-North Beach

It’s easy to see why Biergarten, in the heart of Hayes Valley, is so popular, a place where one can drink litres of beer, eat sausages and snack on deviled pickled eggs, where you can huddle under thick wool blankets with a drink in your hand under strings of fairy lights. Like a little piece of Munich in San Francisco, they serve a huge array of beers on tap and buy the bottle and serve a tasty range of California influenced German food. Their burger has quickly become the stuff of legend even though it’s offered only on Wednesdays. A Prather Ranch patty, on a Firebrand bun, it’s hands-down one of the best in the city. There are also pretzels (buttered pretzels topped with prosciutto, no less) and pickles and sliders and all manner of wursts to choose from. If you’re not a massive beer fan they also stock cider and a decent selection of wines.
