There is so much to like about this place. Housed in a fancy, turn-of-the-century building, which has been a local watering hole since 1907, the Comstock Saloon serves vintage cocktails and upscale bar fare.

There is so much to like about this place. Housed in a fancy, turn-of-the-century building, which has been a local watering hole since 1907, the Comstock Saloon serves vintage cocktails and upscale bar fare. It’s a handsome spot, preserving many of the saloon’s historic design elements, and the main room is full of warm wood and cosy booth in which to sit and sip a drink or two. Cocktails are of the classic variety. The Cherry Bounce blends bourbon, cherry brandy, lemon, and Angostura, with a dash of Champagne, while the Moonraker is a potent mix of Cognac, Sutton’s quinquina, peach, and absinthe. They serve a mean Martinez (one of our favourites) and if you’re feeling indecisive you can entrust yourself to the bartender’s skilled whims. There’s local Anchor Steam on tap and a decent range of Belgian beers by the bottle and can as well as San Francisco’s own Big Daddy IPA. Chef Ronnie New, former head chef of Magnolia, oversees the kitchen and the dinner menu feature fresh seafood – oysters and shrimp – as well as a house burger and various tasty bar snacks: pimento cheese, scotch eggs and mini oyster po’boys. Round out your night with a deep, dark Guinness Chocolate Malt Cake or a rich bourbon-laced pudding.
