San Francisco-North Beach
May 11, 2018
Part of the fabric of San Francisco for 75 years, Original Joe’s is located right in the heart of North Beach, and is a favourite with locals and tourists alike. Tuxedoed waiters dole at tasty Italian and American classics at this recently revamped bar and restaurant with a long history. It looks pretty smart inside now, with its smooth booth seating, and the atmosphere is lively and convivial. Cocktails include The Kamikaze, a mix of Hanger One Lime Vodka, Cointreau, Triple Sec, and fresh lime juice. Joe’s take on the classic Sazerac includes Templeton Rye and Peychaud’s Bitters served in a Herbsaint-rinsed glass. Their Negroni blends Anchor Junipero Gin, Carpano Sweet Vermouth and Campari, and they make a mean Pisco Sour too. Their Eggplant Parmigiana is the bomb, and you’re going to want a bowl of their Spaghetti and Meatballs. Joe’s Famous Hamburger is also a winner and they do a great range of steaks and chops if you’re feeling particularly carnivorous. Brunch is a big deal here. Pair a plate of Joe’s ham and eggs with a glass of La Quintossa, a zingy yet elegant mix of prosecco, fresh grapefruit juice, and triple sec. Delish.
