San Francisco-North Beach
May 11, 2018
The North beach outpost of the popular local taco joint has all the things that make the chain such a treat. The room is bright and bold, yet simple with black-and-white tiled floors, elevated tables and banquettes, and cool art on the walls – including a snap of Obama eating tacos. The range of tequila is off the chart. There’s so many to choose from, with different notes of oak, as well as a range of mezcals, and these guys really know their stuff when it comes to agave. House cocktails include a spicy Margarita with pueblo viejo blanco, lime, and red chili pepper vinegar, and the soothing but potent Much Gusto, a blend of pueblo viejo blanco, pineapple, coconut water, lime, and agave. There’s a great range of beers including Negra Modelo on tap, and obviously you’ll want to go to town on the tacos. The baja-style Pacific cod tacos are a good starting point, and we like the sound of the house-made chorizo and potatoes option too. There are also tostadas, fried plantains and various salady things as well as sweet tacos and churros for dessert.
