Padrecito, which occupies a space which was formally home to an unexciting wine bar and restaurant, is a real boon for the Cole Valley neighbourhood. Created and designed by the owners of Mamacita, Tipsy Pig, Blue Barn, and Umami, the space is buzzy and lively offering cocktails and top-notch Mexica food to an appreciative crowd. Inside the venue is airy and light with a raised bar area, wooden booth seating and a scattering of photos, mirrors and trinkets on the walls. The bar menu focuses on Mexican spirits, including a curated selection of 100% agave tequilas and mezcals. The majority of the cocktails feature these two tipples. La Copa Verde is a case in point, a blend of mezcal, cilantro, and chipotle powder with a subtle but definite kick. The Chancito features cinnamon syrup, port wine and basil, while the La Rosa blends chipotle vodka with the sweetness of raspberry and the tartness of grapefruit marmalade. Food-wise, we’re talking pork carnitas, crispy chicke tacos and quesadillas with chanterelles and green garlic. Plus more adventurous dishes like the duck carnitas chilaquiles with kale, favas, and chipotle mole.
