The Dogpatch Saloon has a rich history, dating back over a century to 1912. Until recently it might have been described as a dive bar but a revamp and a redesign care of the 83 Proof guys has managed to retain much of the bar’s character while making it more agreeable to contemporary tastes. This means a cleaner, more inviting interior with a working gas fire and booth seating made of old church pews though we’re glad to see they’ve kept the old bar counter and the stained glass (complete with cute dog motif). The new Saloon also does cocktails. Creative drinks like the Whiskey Snap, a sweet-sharp mix of bourbon, ginger liqueur, and whiskey-barrel-aged bitters, and the Blackheart, a seriously smooth concoction of Anchor Porter, bourbon, strawberry, and maple syrup (yum). They don’t do food but they do cool weekend jazz sessions and while this is still the kind of place you can come to chill out and watch the game now you can do it with a craft beer or one of those cocktails at your elbow.
