Smokestack, the new outpost of the Magnolia Brewing Company in Dogpatch is part brewery part barbecue joint, part whiskey bar a damn fine combination in anyone’s book (and definitely in ours). This is an altogether more dazzling space than Magnolia’s Haight basement brewery. It’s much bigger for one thing, with towering ceilings and an abundance of exposed pipework. Obviously these guys know a thing or two about beer, that’s a given, especially considering that much of it is made onsite. There are around 20 beers on tap as well as three by hand pumps, catering to all tastes, but they also have a cracking cocktail list care of bar manager Eric Quilty. His menu abounds with creative and delicious drinks, like the Mission in the Rain, a heady mix of mezcal with locally made Americano aperitif wine, bay leaf cordial, apricot liqueur, and oregano. On the food front you really, really need to be trying their Thai Chili Cheddar Pork Sausage it’s addictive stuff and pairs perfectly with one of their house craft beers.
