The Armory Club
San Francisco-Outer San Francisco
May 11, 2018
Despite being owned and run by the same people as online adult entertainment site Kink.com (yes, that’s correct), The Armory Club is a surprisingly sophisticated space, an elegant and clubby cocktail bar, the antithesis of insalubrious. Cocktail offerings reflect that; their drinks made with small batch spirits and handcrafted ingredients – house-made bitters, fresh squeezed juices, and the like. Drinks like the Wake Up Call, which pairs with spiced chocolate bitters, lime, and ginger beer, or the Joya, a blend of tequila, green chartreuse, punt e mes, and orange bitters. The barrel-aged Mr Cooper meanwhile is a mix of white whiskey, aperol, angostura bitters, and orange peel. The bar’s beer menu focuses on local brews and there is a small but thoughtful selection of wines. The space itself is handsome and vaguely Victorian in style, with ornate wallpaper, (tasteful) erotic art on the walls, flat screens (also tasteful) an onyx topped bar and inviting leather couches, lots of dark, warm wood and a fireplace in the corner. The red-walled back bar has a speakeasy style vibe, its shelves lined with bottles of premium spirits, and the crowd are satisfyingly eclectic in a very San Francisco way. Bottled cocktails and weekend champagne carts are promised in due course along with regular culinary pop-ups from local producers.
