SRO, the initials of this bar-within-a-bar, located within quirky neighborhood saloon Oddjob, stand for Standing Room Only. And it is on the small side, though this might be overstating things. The entrance is hidden away; while there’s a separate door on Washburn Alley, you can also enter via a secret bookcase-door, much like the Library at Bourbon & Branch, at the back of OddJob, which let’s face it is the more romantic option. It’s one of a number of hip bars which have been set up inside larger, busier cocktail bars, a more intimate, comfortable place for savouring drinks. Peter Glikshtern and Jeff Whitmore, of Public Works and Big, are the guys behind the bar, along with Jordan Langer. And, as at Big, they put the matter of drinks into the bartenders’ hands. Tell them what you like, and they’ll concoct something for you. These guys know what they’re doing and the bar is well stocked so it’s bound to be good, whatever they go for. Drinks are prettily presented and attention to detail is evident in all of their drinks. The space is handsome too.
