Perched atop the luxurious and architecturally distinctive Unique Hotel, the Skye Bar is for those who like a room (or, in this case, a terrace) with a view. The venue has got a very Hollywood vibe about it. Think lots of white, a canopy of sky, and an aural backdrop of DJ-provided beats. The crowd is also very LA: glam and tanned and nipped and waxed, sipping their wasabi martinis (it had to happen sooner or later, didn’t it?). There’s also inevitably an open air pool, which is reserved for hotel guests during the day but is open to all at night. Even the ride up to the bar is on the swish side, in a private elevator which opens on a gleaming cream corridor. Then of course, there’s the view: this bar’s raison d’etre, a sweeping vista over the city’s rooftops. Drinks and nibbles are steeply priced; the view is gratis.
