The popular German-style beer hall
and bocce bar on Capitol Hill used to be known as Von Trapp’s but it
changed its name to Rhein Haus to avoid confusion with a similarly named
venue. In most other regards the 12th Ave bar remains the same. It’s still a lively
and fun spot, casual and spacious, barn-like in capacity with a beamed wooden
ceiling and a great clock watching over everything. There’s a great range
of tasty German snacks available – great beer fodder all, pretzels and Spätzle
and all the wursts (Bratwurst, Hirschwurst, veggiewurst), plus Schnitzel
Sliders and things on sticks. There’s a huge range of local and international
craft brews available as well along with a few more mainstream options with
which to wash all of this down. There are tasting flights if you want to try a
range of beers and the bar also boasts a number bocce courts. The atmosphere is
agreeable, laid-back and relaxed.
