Artusi, the Italian aperitivo bar has been around for a while but has recently revamped its cocktail menu. Taking its name from the author of the Italian cookery bible, Pellegrino Artusi, the focus here is on grappa, amaro, and vermouth, though they also serve a good range of beers and wines. The interior is white and light with striking cylindrical light fittings and there’s a small terrace area for summer sipping. Of the new cocktails, a Cindy Crawford pairs your choice of base spirit gin or vodka with Cocci Americano, grapefruit, hopped grapefruit bitters and peppercorn while the Punctured Bicycle is a mix of Campari, cynar, lime, and Prosecco. The Water Off a Duck’s Back blends rum passion fruit, Strega, lime and pepper in the form of a boozy slushy (they also serve other slushy cocktails depending on the day, ideal for cooling off on hot nights) and the Dead Glamour pairs tequila with St Maria al Monte, Campari and cardamom bitters. The wine list features the best of Italy and they serve a good range by the glass. You’d be remiss not to try the food. The pastas are glorious and bar bites, like their warm roasted hazelnuts, pair well with the drinks. The squid ink chitarra with sardines, cherry tomatoes and fennel pollen is a must try dish.
