Hecho has a rustic-chic cantina vibe. Replacing Carmelita on Phinney Ridge, it offers a range of creative Mexican street food and a great selection of tequilas and mezcals. It’s an atmospheric space, candlelit, inviting, the walls adorned with the requisite ceramic tiles and scrolling metalwork. The décor is rough and raw-hewn, well-weathered, and there’s a little decked area for drinking and dining on warmer nights. Their cocktails include excellent margaritas and an on-trend cocktail on tap which blends Campari and rye. We particularly like the sound of the Golden Bandito, a blend of Reposado tequila, lemon sage shrub, sparkling wine, celery bitters, and they offer a rotating tequila flight if you want to do some flavour-based exploration. The food menu is chock-full of tempting things. Their house guacamole comes laced with bacon (hmm, bacon), their fried fish tacos, with sweet membrillo are a joy and their carne asada is wickedly good, the tender skirt steak served with white corn tostadas. Their mussels with salsa verde are also worth your time. The place makes a great brunch spot too. Thick Huevos Ranchero with boozy Horchata.
