Oliver’s Twist is the work of the folks behind the bar of the same name in Phinney Ridge. This popular Magnolia gastropub is a great addition to the area, it has a warm friendly feel, the amiable bartenders serving cool cocktails amid quirky surroundings. The interior is a collision of vintage bits and pieces. There are black leather banquettes and paper lampshades, a wall full of local art. Their cocktails are well-made and creative and include a peppery Manhattan and their contemporary spin on Seattle favorite, the Old Pal, here made with rye, Campari, sweet vermouth, absinthe and Peychaud’s bitters. A good stiff satisfying drink. The food menu is full of creative small plates including their already famous garlic-truffled popcorn, kale with garlic and chilli, blue cheese and bacon stuffed dates, duck-fat fingerling potatoes and a divine grilled-cheese sandwich served with an inventive tomato cappuccino. We’re intrigued by the idea of the grilled chocolate they offer for dessert.
