Percy’s a self-styled ‘apothecary bar’ in buzzing Ballard occupies a historic building (and sometime speakeasy), dating back some 115 years. The new venue captures a sense of the building’s past, evoking the old while creating something for now. The interior has am appealing pub-like feel with comfy booths and a scattering of stand up tables, the room a mix of dark wood and exposed brickwork. Green ferns cascade from the ceiling and there’s a covered and heated outdoor patio for al fresco drinking. The work of cousins Kyle Taylor and Joe Peterson, the drinks menu showcases a variety of infusions, tinctures and purees, many house-made. The Balmed Julep blends spice infused bourbon with ginger, bitters, house sour, and soda to create something warming and complex. Sage-infused bourbon shows up in the Herrick Helper and Lemongrass-infused vodka plays a role in the Awakened One along with a sprig of cilantro. There are further purportedly health giving tinctures available to add to your drink to give it an extra kick. The food menu is also ripe for exploration, with salads playing a large role. Vegetarians are well served here with dishes like sugar snap peas and ricotta, but those after something heartier won’t be disappointed the pork dip sandwich with sweet onion marmalade should see them right.
