This high-end Capitol Hill cocktail spot has a dark, sophisticated speakeasy vibe which is really appealing. Think dark wood, leather-bound books, a gramophone, dapperly attired bartenders, a grown-up library feel (though a library with cocktails – which sounds a like a place in which we could lose a lot of time). Impeccably crafted cocktails include the Farmer’s Hand, a blend of Gin, Strawberry-Rhubarb Syrup, Lemon, and a Red Wine Float and the potent, smoky Dusky Hummingbird, a blend of Mezcal, Lychee Liqueur, Lime, Agave, and Absinthe. We particularly like the sound of their Secret Meeting, a blend of Rye, Campari, Ramazzotti Amaro, Dry Vermouth, and Whiskey Barrel-Aged Bitters. The food menu offers contemporary American comfort dishes: spiced fried chicken, mac and cheese with duck fat bread and a superior house burger with red wine onion jam and optional pork belly. There’s also a not so “secret” upstairs bar called Needle and Thread, which is also a delightful place to sink a drink or three of an evening.
