Serving a mix of hand-crafted cocktails and comfort foods with a modern twist, The Gerald has rapidly established itself as one of the smartest bars in the Ballard locale. Their spanking brand new menu for fall and winter gives you even more reason to visit or revisit this hop space, with spacious back room and attractive front bar with charcoal walls and retro furnishing. While they screen all the big games, on non-sports nights it’s a relaxed kind of joint where you can enjoy some well mixed drinks care of the skilled bar staff. They serve a range of classic sips as well as some more ambitious and exciting concoctions like the Don’t Stop the Bete, an earthy drink made with beet liquor. We also like the sound of the Mad Men inspired Draper Point, a smooth and aromatic mix of bourbon, black tea, sweet vermouth, root, apricot liqueur, angostura bitters, orange peel and nutmeg. They also serve an on-trend array of barrel aged cocktails and you’re also encouraged to ß-trust your bartenderß- and let them whip you up a bespoke tipple. And while cocktails are the main draw, they also boast a shot but sweet wine list and a small but well-chosen range of beers. Food is a big part of the operation here and the kitchen serves a delicious bar snacks and larger plates such as bacon-roasted Brussels sprouts, seriously rich and creamy mac’n; cheese, pulled pork, maple chicken waffles or fried cheese curds. Still hungry? We doubt you will be after one of their Bacon Nutella waffles for dessert.
