Matador is a mini-chain in Seattle serving superior fresh Tex-Mex cuisine and a huge – and we mean huge – range of tequilas. The flagship branch in Ballard is a comfortable hangout with an appealingly rustic vibe, this despite the cattle skulls hanging from the ceiling. Big mirrors make the place feel more spacious and there’s plenty of warm wood dotted about the place adding to the atmosphere. Their range of tequilas is vast and comprehensive – blanco, reposado, anejo as well as a number of smoky mezcals and earthy sotols. There are tequila flights if you want to try a selection. The food menu is similarly rich, including a wide range of tacos – try the carne asada or the pork carnitas. The agave marinated chicken torta is worthy of your attention ditto the punchy green chili burger. There are excellent burritos and enchiladas too. If you’re sharing try the street taco platter and try a whole selection. Each branch has its own specialities and the Ballard branch has tacos at £1.5 a pop during happy hour. An offer it’s very hard to argue with.
