Located inside the Alexis Hotel, downtown near Pike Place Market, on Seattle’s gorgeous waterfront, the stylish Bookstore Bar serves breakfast, lunch and dinner as well as an array of great drinks. It’s a cosy, tranquil place by day, airy and light with attractive décor, all bare brickwork and book shelves (naturally). They stock an absolutely cracking range of scotch and whiskey – over 130 kinds to try – from smooth gateway whiskeys to intense peaty, smoky drams. There are also local beers on tap and a short but strong wine list. The food menu is equally exciting: house chowder, steamed clams with fried capers, deep rich oxtail ragu with house-made pasta and a range of cheeses and charcuterie. Their happy hour deals are really good value and they do an excellent selection of brunch dishes too, including buttermilk waffles, an epic Rueben sandwich, bagels and lox, and eggs benedict – the dish without which no brunch menu would be complete.
