Loulay is Thierry Rautureau’s third restaurant and it’s a lively, almost glitzy kind of place with theatrical chandeliers hanging over the dining room. Rautureau is best known as the Chef in the Hat and this downtown spot has a smart, dressy vibe, with silver banquettes, gilt mirrors and an upscale atmosphere. The French American food is as good as you’d hope. There’s his famous dish, scrambled eggs with lime creme fraiche and caviar, for one thing but that’s just the tip of the culinary iceberg. The duck sliders are too doe for and the crab beignets aren’t far behind. Rautureau’s take on classic onion soup comes with a wonderfully oozing lid of molten cheese. There’s a superior wine list (including an exciting selection of bubbles) and a good range of cocktails to whet the appetite. The brunch options are excellent and they do a wickedly rich and creamy Eggs Benedict,
