This cool waterside spot by Josh Henderson (the dude behind Skillet) offers a contemporary take on Northwest Mediterranean food. The venue boasts brilliant views of the lake and downtown and there’s a patio and beach area which you can enjoy in warmer weather. Sun-bleached wood and reclaimed timber abound giving the place an upscale beach shack vibe. The adjoining bar, Little Gull, houses a 22-seat oyster bar alongside a small grocery selling wine, charcuterie, and other goodies. If you have a boat, there’s a customer docking area, so you can stop by on the water. The creative drinks list is well worth exploring. The Tahmato Drink is their take on a Bloody Mary, made using spicy vodka and lovage bitters; the Sailor’s Gimlet blends Beefeater gin with a shed-load of lime: lime cordial, lime juice and lime bitters no chance of scurvy here. Their beer cocktails are also worth a try. The Blackstrap Cream Soda pairs draft stout with ginger vanilla soda, while the house take on a Michelada is pretty much a must try on a scorching afternoon. There’s a range of seasonal drinks made with house shrubs and liqueurs. We like the sound of the apricot sage liqueur they put in their Champagne Cocktail. Foodwise, the place has a fun, flavour-packed and creative menu, which makes great use of the wood-fired grill. Dishes change frequently to make the most of the freshest produce. But you can expect treats like octopus bolognaise, smoked clam dip, wild boar meatballs and wood baked gigante beans.
