Why B28, you may well ask? Well, unusually for a Korean bar name, there's a simple Anglo logic to the acronym at this bottle-heavy venue: the very first B28, opened in Singapore back in 2011, was in a basement (B) at 28 (B-28) Ann Siang Hill.

Why B28, you may well ask? Well, unusually for a Korean bar name, there’s a simple Anglo logic to the acronym at this bottle-heavy venue: the very first B28, opened in Singapore back in 2011, was in a basement (B) at 28 (B-28) Ann Siang Hill. Today, owners Mike Soldner and Grace Chang are building up quite the empire, with B28 Bottle Club, which opened in 2014, the fourth of an ever-expanding B-brand – and, true to form, B28 is also in a basement. While B28 Bottle Club has moved away from its original concept of bottle service only – all the impressive whiskies described in salivatory detail on their tome of a menu are available by the dram – it continues to take its bottles very seriously. Besides the bartenders with trolleys who’ll mix up slick cocktails from your bottle at your table, there’s a selection of eight classic bottle-aged cocktails – and if you so much dare as to think of touching vodka, you’ll need to buy an entire bottle for your mates. Love gin? You’ll appreciate their selection set of lesser-known European gins, served with tonic and the appropriate garnish. While previous B28s have been all about the jazz, this slick space is much more party-hearty, with DJs spinning deep house on Friday, and at the popular Sunday Sessions. If you’d like to savour gourmet spirits in an environment that’s not just a temple to the hard stuff, then this Hannam-dong haven is likely the spot for you.
