Speakeasy Bar Mano
May 11, 2018
One of the leaders of the pack in the recent surge of
prohibition-inspired Seoul speakeasy bars, Speakeasy Bar Mano is the ideal
place to slip away from the busy metropolis above, sip on a single malt whisky,
and be seen by some of the city’s most fashionable crowds.
While Mano may not be as physically hidden as some other
speakeasies in town – there’s no hard-to-pronounce password or particularly
difficult to find entrance – Speakeasy Bar Mano’s basement location actually
looks and feels like the genuine article more than most of its speakeasy bar
brethren in town. The bar itself, tables, and even some of the paneled walls
inside Mano are made of planks of dark and light wood, as was custom in the
1920s, and the plush red leather couches feel like they were taken straight
from a Chicago mobster’s lakefront hideout.
Moonshine has been replaced by single malt whisky at Mano, and
the shelves are stocked with bottles from Scotland and other famous
whisky-producing regions of the world. All the world class premium brands you
expect to find are here, but Mano also takes pride in surprising its guests
with a daily special whisky and small batch brands. Add to all that an in-house
ice program that produces cubes to compliment and enhance the flavor of your
whisky and the fact that the venue is cigar-friendly, and Mano is truly the
whole speakeasy package.
