The latest incarnation of Seoul’s fantastic family of XII
speakeasy bars, Twelve takes the original gilded template and adds to it. XII
became famous for only offering twelve chairs to patrons and the fact that
those dozen seats soon became the most sought after in all of Asia. Twelve may
not spell their name with roman numerals, and the bar may have room for a few
more patrons, but it still manages to keep the atmosphere intimate and full of
reverence for cocktails and whisky just like its sister bars.
It’s only natural that Twelve would be located in Cheongdam,
the chic upmarket district of Seoul, and from its opening, it has been the
place to be seen in this neighbourhood full of eye-catching people and venues.
In addition to the signature dozen bar tables, Twelve is also home to a handful
of hall, booth, and table seating in addition to an exquisite private room for
those who relish the truly intimate bar experience.
The mixologists stay busy at Twelve shaking both classic and
creative new concoctions, often featuring whisky – the undisputed official
liquor of Seoul’s in-crowd. The staff is encouraged to put all their bartending
skills and education to the test to come up with signature drinks at Twelve,
and the customers benefit as it often results in brilliance. Twelve may stray a
tad bit from the script of its predecessors, but it’s those differences that
make this perhaps the best location in the family and leaves us wondering what
they have planned next.
