Part of the Lan Kwai Fong complex at Park 97, (which also includes Baci and Tokio Joe’s restaurants), the California Club is one of Shanghai’s hippest spots. A clubby, vibrant atmosphere waits inside, with renowned resident DJs sending their sounds echoing around the sleek red interior. The bar area is located in the centre of the room, and there are several sofas and seating nooks lining the walls. Music veers from house to progressive to dance, pleasing a crowd of young, image conscious Shanghai clubbers. The atmosphere is surprisingly un-intimidating for such a determinedly stylish venue, and as you long as you have the cash to splash and an urge to hit the dance floor, you should find much here that appeals.
