Long Bar at Waldorf Astoria Shanghai on the Bund
May 11, 2018
The Waldorf Astoria is one of the most luxurious hotels on the Bund. Everything about it exudes comfort and opulence, a whiff of old New York. The Long Bar encapsulates this, a jazzy, art deco lounge, with an air of the 1930s. The space is full of elegant leather coaches and deep, dark wood. The room is dominated by a large bar, an accurate recreation of the one that used to stand here back when this place was known as The Shanghai Club in 1910. The head bar-tender hails from Scotland, something reflected in the large whisky selection; there’s also an intriguing cocktail list of mainly vintage drinks. The crowd is mainly made up of moneyed, influential types: very Bund.
