While glitz and glamour are commonplace in a city like Shanghai, Glam has taken things in a decidedly new direction with a stylish mix of lounge, cocktail bar, and restaurant that is playful and fun yet seriously chic at the same time. A sequel-of-sorts to recently-shuttered local nightlife legend Glamour, Glam (which is owned by the same restaurateur as Glamour) sparkles with an eclectic decor, gourmet bites, and cocktail menu that dazzles the senses. Upon entry, you will be struck at the kaleidoscope of art on the walls – most from the owner’s private collection – and the other bold colors splashed on the walls, not to mention the bright blue peacock peering at you. The space is designed like nothing else in Shanghai and when you peruse the cocktail menu you will find delicious surprises there as well. Cocktails like the Evening Thyme – thyme-infused dark spiced rum, vanilla, lime, and zesty ginger – Saffron and Spice – saffron-infused brandy, apricot bitters, lemon, and star anise syrup – and Glam’s My Thai – coconut rum, coconut milk, cilantro, lime, honey & black pepper syrup – show a flair for creativity and ingenuity tinged with free-spirited fun. The rest of the card is heavy on traditional tipples like whisky cocktails, martinis, and, as they describe them, “fancy pantsy gin and tonics” in addition to the finest world wines, all helping make Glam that rare sequel that may just be better than the original.
