Housed in the elegant 1930s villa that used to house the British consulate, YongFoo Elite is one of Shanghai’s most exclusive spots. Located in the old French Concession, the rambling building abounds with Buddhist statues, antique Chinese furniture and green leather sofas. The garden is a divine spot to sip a G&T, reclining under magnolia trees with the stars glinting above. The restaurant serves up decent Euro-Asian cuisine, but the food was always going to come second to the atmosphere here. Order a cocktail and take a wander onto one of two gorgeous verandahs. A members’ bar, it has an exclusive air, with guests required to sign in at the foot if a long driveway.
