Located on the seventh floor of a newly renovated development near The Bund, Shen is the new project from the guys behind DADA. It’s a very different animal, with a large sweeping terrace, which provides top views out over Lujiazui and The Bund. It’s also a bit more upmarket in atmosphere and décor with leather chairs laden with brightly coloured cushions and window boxes full of fresh herbs. While you can sit inside, the terrace is definitely the top spot to sit. Drinks are pretty special too. The menu, which has been overseen by Jerry Chen, formerly of Starling and Choir, is compact but exciting. There are three house specialty cocktails and a dozen classic cocktails, including a Mojito. House cocktails include the Chinglish, a zingy mix of rum, lemon and lychee and melon liqueurs with a baijiu base. The Ancient Smoky Secret with its sphere full of star anise is another winner. The menu of bar snacks includes seriously inventive bites like their smoked fish candy puffs and some properly excellent Sichuan chicken. Yum x 100.
