This Taiwanese-run speakeasy-style cocktail bar is a popular spot, with very good reason. It’s – intentionally – not the easiest place to find. But once you’ve located the hidden door behind a vending machine in what looks like a sandwich shop, you’ll be in for a treat. You enter the space though a small tunnel and emerge into a smart, contemporary bar area, with clubby beats playing in the background. That aside they’re going for a Prohibition-era vibe here with dapper bar tenders and classic and modern cocktails. The Robin Hood Roy pairs Scotch with sweet vermouth and infused lemongrass, while the ‘ladies’ section of the menu (we’re not sure we approve of this distinction) features tasty things like the Taiwan Plum Soup, a mix of rum, plum liqueur and osmanthus wine served in a small bowl. Many of the drinks are presented in a slightly theatrical manner, though you’re best of sticking to the classics as they hit the spot more often than the newer creations. The place can get pretty rammed later in the evening, so go early if you want to be sure of a table.
