First opened in Paris in the mid 2000s by André Saraiva (also known as the street artist legend Monsieur A), Le Baron has come to Shanghai and brought the exclusivity and celebrity it has become world famous for with it. Located in a fairly unassuming building in the French Concession area of Shanghai, Le Baron may blend in with its ordinary surrounds, but once inside you are whisked away to place filled with the type of crowd you would normally have to buy a ticket to get close to. While not all customers are A-listers, of course, Le Baron is the type of venue that is so plush due to its reputation that everyone seems to play the part of celeb when they walk through the door. If you are lucky enough to cross Le Baron’s threshold (their doormen are notoriously picky) you will find a sleek and stylish space with plenty of red splashes and pieces of Monsieur A’s art on the walls in addition to an exquisite semi-transparent mirror. DJs spin most nights, and as recent history has shown, they are the type who help make or break hit songs in Shanghai. The cocktails at Le Baron cater to sophisticated tastes with emphasis on champagnes and top shelf liquors, which you will definitely want to fully enjoy until the wee hours – just watch out for paparazzi catching a shot of you on your way out.
