Harry's Quayside Bar

Harry’s was world famous anyway, but since this was the haunt of renegade broker, the infamous Nick Leeson who single-handedly brought down Barings Bank, adds further rogue appeal. Yes, you’ve guessed it is classic American cuisine on the bill of fare here, running a predictable and decidedly carnivorous gamut from steak to burgers. By way of contrast, the chef is also a dab hand at Malaysian Chicken Curry and Beef Rendang and Laksa. Some have gone so far as to declare it the best place for jazz on the island. Nor is this an idle boast. Its resident band, Chroma Zone, have certainly won praise in many quarters. From them one can expect a constant supply of expertly orchestrated jazz, every bit as smooth as the cocktails. Appropriately enough, it has a house cocktail, the Bank Breaker which pays homage to the dubious doings of Mr. Leeson.Midori, whiskey and soda provide the main artillery and your vaults will have to be pretty strong to resist its power. The bar-tenders also make a mean Maitai, not to mention cracking Mojito. Add to this the great views of the water it commands, it is as perfect for a spot of laid back lunch as it is or lively nights of long drinks and revels. Be warned: All this does not come cheap. Small wonder Leeson took to crime. Live bands play every night of the week and on Sundays, aspiring musicians gather for a special jam session from 7pm until midnight.
