Jigger and Pony
May 11, 2018
Now based at the Amara Hotel, Jigger and Pony have expanded their scene somewhat to fill their new bar, which we have to say is quite an upgrade. It remains a classy but relaxed speakeasy type bar that serves fantastic cocktails to a youngish crowd who want to have fun with friends in a buzzing bar. However, now they can accommodate a lot more of them.
Smartly dressed bar tenders line up behind the swish, curvy and well-lit bar. With its glossy black top and stylish shape, it is the focal piece of the venue. Not too far away is a high, long tall table – a sociable central feature much loved at the previous premises for inducing friendly chatter amongst strangers. They have also kept the intimate booths which line the walls. Low, comfy seating is available for those who want to be a little further from the busy bar in an upstairs area full of warm orange and teal colours. The lighting and decor are pretty, with ultra-modern clean lines. The whole place is much like a cake that is so immaculate you can’t bring yourself to eat it. Oh, go on then.
As with all good drinking holes it is the drinks that are the main attraction. The bar staff are proud of their efforts, and rightly so. They know their stuff and are happy to create and tweak cocktails for you. With innovative concoctions such as the corpse reviver with comes with absinthe jelly there are plenty of drinks to spark your interest. Visit at happy hour (between 18.00 and 20.00) to take advantage of almost half price drinks. In terms of food, you won’t be disappointed. Fried pickles are a winner, and the tuna tartare pie tee is awesome. Our favourite snack here are the arancini balls; yum.
