Stirka 40° is part café, part bar – and part launderette. The place began life as an art project by its Berlin-based owner Anke Nowottne. The venue was part of her graduation project at the Zurich School of Art and Design. It remains a quirky place in which to hang-out: cosy, intimate and unlike anywhere else in the city. There’s art on the walls, a scattering of tables and chairs, and a ramshackle hand-made quality to the place. At night there are DJs and the atmosphere is lively but chilled out. Take a seat in the back of the bar and enjoy a beer or a vodka – maybe have a dance as the night rolls on. The washing machines are fully functional so you could even get some laundry done.
