Somewhat hidden away, on one of the city’s less glamorous byways, AG can be tricky to find but it’s worth tracking it down. There’s some seriously good cooking going on at this place. On entering the stylish bar and restaurant, the latest venture from the team behind the popular and much loved Rolfs Kßk, you’re confronted with a great glass meat locker stuffed with steaks a statement of intent. The stark, bright space with its gleaming white tiled walls and wicked glints of chrome (the meat hooks here are almost sculptural, fetishized things) has something of the butcher shop about it, and has become a favourite for those who love a good piece of cow, cooked with skill and, yes, with love. The menu is meat-heavy in the very best way, offering customers braised oxtail, shortribs, duck liver, deer tongue, all manner of pig bits, a vast dry-aged porterhouse for two. If there’s a large group of you, you can pre-order a whole suckling pig or a huge osso bucco to share. In addition to the main dining room, there’s a similarly crisp, white bar area where you can munch down on oysters or sliders while enjoying a beautifully crafted Martini, a barrel aged Boulevardier or a glass of fine wine from the lengthy and wide-ranging wine list.
