Classy from the outset, The Perch is a Swansea cocktail and beer bar that doesn’t do things by halves. The interior is a chic collection of exposed brick walls, plush velvet booths, distressed wood tables and filament lightbulbs, all of which offer a nod to the simplistic yet elegant nature of the drinks menu. Speaking of, The Perch’s boutique beer card is a mind-boggling selection of craft ales, porters and lagers from around the world, in addition to a couple of American beers on draught. The Montezuma Chocolate Lager and the Yakima Red with a citrus edge are of particularly note. Then there’s the cocktails. Most are of the classic persuasion, muddled with modern syrups and infused spirits, such as the Mapletini: bacon-infused bourbon, pressed apple juice, maple syrup and candied bacon. Other more fruity favorites include the Spiced Elderflower Mojito, the Mandarin & Cherry Sidecar and the Neapolitan (vodka, blackberries, milk and cream). The Perch is also particularly proud of its wine and champagne selection, even creating themed evenings around particular varieties of grape. And to help the proceedings flow even more smoothly, guests can order up a bevy of Mediterranean tapas-style plates to accompany the drinks and the regular backdrop of live music.
