Nestled in Neutral Bay on Sydney’s stylish North Shore, Firefly is a cozy neighborhood haunt home to handcrafted cocktails, shared dishes plated up with pizzazz, and a plethora of pinot noir bottles. Taking its name from a flamboyant young Italian cabaret performer named Lucetta – which translates to ‘little light’ – who opened her own rustic wine bar nearly a century ago in the Italian hills, Firefly carries on her tradition with a warm and welcoming atmosphere ideal for watching the hours go by with friends. And wine, lots and lots of wine. Firefly’s bar thoroughly impresses with both an extensive list of cocktails and beer, many of which are of the local variety, and the city famous “wall of wine” holding over 70 pinot noir bottles alone, with some of Australia and New Zealand’s finest wineries and varieties represented. As far as the cocktails are concerned, standout creatives are The Joker & The Thief – vodka, Spanish liqueur, caramel, and passionfruit, shaken and served on the rocks – and the English Blossom; a beauty of citrus vodka, lychee, rosewater, and orange. Some cocktails are available by the pitcher for sharing with friends. The shareable plates at Firefly are creative without going too far over the cutting edge, with fried haloumi and watermelon, zingy zucchini fries, or a zesty pizza offering the perfect pairing for your pinot.
