Golden Age Cinema and Bar
May 11, 2018
Housed in the former VIP viewing room of the historic, heritage-listed Paramount Pictures building in Surry Hills, Golden Age is a throwback to a more refined time. The old Paramount screening room is now home to a boutique cinema showing classic movies and cult favourites alongside the occasional new release. The adjoining bar area is a sleek, attractive space decked out in elegant art deco fashion with plush, leather booths and lots of polished wood. The cocktail list features riffs on the drinks of the era. Their Buttered Popcorn Flip is a bit full on, coming as it does with a caramelised popcorn-infused swizzle stick, but their classier tipples definitely hit the spot. There’s a decent wine list and a small selection of craft beer on offer too. The menu of posh small plates is also well worth exploring (we hear good things about the ice cream sundaes) and you can take your food and drink in with you if you plan to see a movie, putting a glamorous new twist on the date night staple: a happy union of Kubrick and cocktails. It’s also worth noting that you don’t need a cinema ticket to visit the bar if you just fancy chilling with a drink or two.
