Located above the turf and tile of the recently renovated Marlborough Hotel is Miss Peaches, a funky bar and restaurant redolent of America’s Deep South. Come in via the side entrance, up past the distinctive neon signage, and you’ll find yourself in a hip, retro space, complete with bare brick walls, 1960s lounge chairs, quirky patchwork banquettes and an old black-and-white TV. The drinks list includes tipples like classic Lynchburgh Lemonade, Grape Drank (a legal version, don’t worry theirs is made with vodka, lime, grape soda and topped with candied grapes), Atlanta Fanta which is a lurid but rather refreshing mix of whisky, lemon and orange soda, and creamy Hot Buttered Rum spiced with pumpkin. The bar also stocks a great range of American beers, including some from Brooklyn Brewery and the food menu offers southern classics like crayfish pies, cornbread sliders, fried chicken and blackened catfish. Grits with gravy make the perfect beer fodder, just be sure to save room for peach pie for dessert. There are regular DJ nights and the atmosphere is vibrant and lively – there’s even a cool vinyl soul and 60s R’n’B soundtrack to get you in the mood.
