This laid-back Bondi cocktail bar is a great place to chill out after a long hot day on the beach. It’s not as glitzy as some and is all the better for it. The large bar has a unfussed, rough around the edges quality which really appeals with its lo-fi beach-chic vibe and cool background music. Add some superior cocktails to the mix and you’ve got a pretty awesome package. There are bare brick walls, retro lamps, reclaimed wood and vintage brown leather armchairs inviting you to sink into them with a drink. The bathrooms are covered with iconic black and white photos and this attention is evident in the drinks list too. A Staten Island balanced bitterness with warmth, mixing rye with their house-smoked maple syrup and bitters. The Rhubarb and Peach Bellini is a crisp sweet treat of a thing and they do an excellent Bloody Mary (with smoked garlic salt) for chasing away the excesses of yesterday. Corner House’s Josh Evans is the guy behind the bar snacks menu and their cheeseburger toasties – stuffed with cheese, pickles, ketchup and fries are already something of a local legend. There’s a good-sized yard area and Bondi FM (now Bondi Radio) broadcasts from a studio in the middle of the joint. Even though it’s a big old place it still maintains a degree of intimacy, thanks to the atmospheric décor and friendly staff.
