    About The Barber Shop

Fancy a gin with your haircut, sir? If that sounds like something that would enhance your life, this new venture by Mike Enright, former head bar dude at Merivale, is well worth checking out. Enright qualified as a hairdresser back in the day, though he'll be on mixing not snipping duties here experienced barbers will be in charge of the scissors. The retro-styled bar is decked out like an old school barbershop and will offer gents a haircut, beard trim, or shave along with either a fresh juice or a proper drink depending on the time of day. The faintly industrial room is decked out in barbershop paraphernalia, but it's still very much a bar with plenty to appeal to gin lovers of either sex whether they're after a short back and sides or not. Their Apple, Celery and Ginger Fizz, made with housemade celery liqueur and ginger and apple cider, is deliciously refreshing. We also like the sound of the Razorblade Rattlesnake, rye with fennel seed honey, the Fleet Street, made with chartreuse and pineapple, and the Blood and Bandages, a vivid, crimson mix of morello-infused mescal, cherry brandy, Campari, orange and lemon. There's gin on tap hurrah and they serve a nice line in charcuterie boards if you're hungry. (It's probably a good thing they don't serve pies).  Image © Anliette
