The Courtyard Bar
May 11, 2018
The latest addition to Bayswater Road is the Courtyard Bar, a leafy outdoor space surrounded by potted palms and ferns and scattered with garden furniture. There’s a pleasant Mediterranean-style feel to the place, which makes it the ideal antidote to the rowdier bars in the Kings Cross area. The crowd are mainly upwardly mobile young professionals, drawn by the relaxed atmosphere and the inventive drinks. The cocktail list includes the Pine Splice shooter, made with pineapple-infused pisco and homemade lime syrup; the Dark and Feisty, a mix of tequila, ginger, lime, and stout, and El Mariachi, which is tequila blended with a refreshing mix of watermelon, chilli, lime, and sugar. The well-chosen wine list goes heavy on European varieties and there’s a decent selection of bar food too, sliders and snacking boards mainly, nothing too exciting though their pop-up taco stand was a hit. Bar staff are super friendly, something of a novelty in this part of town and the mood is mellow making it appealingly easy to have a conversation – there’s even talk of live acoustic sets in the future. The Courtyard makes a smart spot to start your night of clubbing but doesn’t quite cut the mustard as a destination cocktail bar in its own right. Still it has charm and we can see why it’s popular.
