Home to a live music stage and a set of bowling alleys, The Standard Bowl is the best of both worlds and one of the funnest nights out in Sydney.

What do you do when you want to breathe a little life into a popular live music venue? Well, you install bowling alleys and make all the concerts free, naturally. Yes, that is how The Standard Bowl recently evolved, and to all of our benefit we might add. A popular spot for gigs for years (it was only known as The Standard then), the venue is still laser-focused on live music, it has just added the ultra-fun bowling alley angle. The inside of the venue was always a bit on the ‘dive bar’ chic side of things, but now the well worn walls have been spruced up with pin-up style murals of bowlers, vintage bowling themed signs that say things like ‘knock ‘em down’ and ‘let’s get ready to roll’, and fresh lighting directed on the stage. There are four bowling alleys to be exact, and each and every Friday and Saturday night you will find them packed with people having the time of their lives. If you tire of tossing strikes, upstairs is stocked with pool and pinball, and offers a great vantage point for the concerts. And speaking of the gigs, they are just as rock-tastic as they used to be, but there’s just no charge to listen to them, now. That extra cash goes a long way, too, as The Standard Bowl is known throughout Sydney for budget-friendly beer and mixed drinks, and serving them late.  Credit Photo:
