There is not much to beckon you into Tio’s Cerveceria, located on the ground floor of a rather unassuming concrete apartment block, aside from a glowing neon sign and painting announcing that “mezcal is special!”. Inside, you could easily be forgiven for thinking that you had stepped into a Mexican drinking den – from the plaster walls dotted with Mayan murals to the mosaic-tiled wooden benches. Lighting inside Tio’s Cerveceria is low but accentuated with the glow of multi-colored fairy lights; a slight hint as to the fun times you’re surely bound to have during your time there. Drinks at Tio’s Cerveceria sway, obviously, toward the Mexican, including imported beers (think Modelo, Tecate, Pacifico, et al), micheladas and an impressive range of mezcal and tequila that the knowledgeable bar staff are more than happy to help you navigate. There’s also a selection of tequila cocktails guaranteed to get your party started, including margaritas, palomas and tequila sunrises, along with some jalapeno chasers that are not for the faint of heart. To accompany the drinks, Tio’s Cerveceria serves a small menu of tacos, chicken wings and nachos, but you may not need them after you’ve polished off the complimentary popcorn-in-a-bag that gets served with every drink.
