Jazz & Blues

Beau is like an oasis amid the noise and hum and throb of Taipei. It’s a place of smooth jazz and candle light, red velvet and glorious cocktails. The handsome two-level space is filled with plush, oversized armchairs, vintage furniture, bird cages and striking chandeliers. Black and white photographs add atmosphere and an illuminated wall of bottles behind the bar completes the picture. Co-owned by Jasmine Leung and Adrian Ong, it’s a welcoming, stylish venue. The cocktail menu includes inventive drinks like the Stolen Secret, a fruity peach and passion fruit affair dusted with chocolate and the Sinful Blueberry, with an absinthe kick softened by the flavour of blueberry and lime. There’s a wide-ranging wine list, including plenty of fizz and champagne, and a menu of contemporary dishes with a European slant (the house wings are a must-try). Music changes from night to night jazz earlier in the week, hip hop and R’n’B on the weekends – and the place attracts an affluent, stylish crowd.
