The Taipei outpost of the exclusive W Hotel chain is located in the bustling downtown XinYi district amid the high-end stores and fashionable restaurants. Up on the 31st floor of this gleaming building you’ll find Yen, the hotel’s restaurant and cocktail lounge. The bar boasts superb views of Taipei 101, the second tallest building in the world, but even if you discounted this the space would still be impressive with its striking wall art and vast wine storage unit which also acts a divider between the lounge and the dining area. Yen’s signature drinks give an Asian twist to classic cocktails, like the Plum Sour, a mix of plum wine, lemon and sugar; the Taipei Mary meanwhile is made with chilli infused vodka. They also stock a good range of top-end whiskies. The bar snacks feature a similar Asian influence. The atmosphere is chic and stylish, everything you’d expect from the W brand; the prices reflect this.
