Next door to the infamous Hollywood club, Lounge 8 is a cool spot to sink a few drinks before hitting the dance floor. Also known as the Kaheksa Lounge, it has a meets-all-needs appeal. It’s popular as a daytime stop off for a beer and a snack, but becomes a cool evening spot as the sun sets. Good bar nibbles and a friendly atmosphere enhance things considerably. The décor is stylish, offering lots of comfy red couches to recline on, illuminated walls and warm colours, giving the place a nicely chic vibe and it’s best to make sure you live up to the surroundings if you’re coming in the evening, as while there’s no strict dress code a certain smartness is expected, not least so you don’t stand out like a sore thumb among the trendy young Tallinnites the venue attracts (it’s a great people watching spot, too, if you want to see what the hip and moneyed of the city are getting up to). It’s laid-back, comfortable and fun, and yet not without glamour as the people switch their coffees and smoothies for pre-club cocktails and gear up for a big night. It’s not the cheapest of venues in town cocktails are well-made but pricey for the area but this is reflected in the patrons, who tend to be a mix of locals with cash to spend and tourists taking advantage of the exchange rate (or spending with vacation fuelled abandon). But if you want a great night out in Tallinn, this is the perfect place to start.
