The Oak Lounge

The Oak Lounge is a stylish cigar shop-cum-bar on a sloping side street off the old town square. With low, curved ceilings, bare walls and a chic, minimalist approach to décor that still manages to exude warmth and a touch of exoticism, this is the kind of hangout James Bond might buy his Havanas in you almost expect to bump into 007 as you peruse what’s on offer. More of a private lounge than a public boozer, you ring a doorbell to gain entrance and then a kindly staff member leads you to the lounge where you peruse a menu of classic cigars from a range of brands, before taking your pick. There’s also a selection of smoking accessories on sale, and the staff know their stuff so feel free to pick their brains before you buy (they also host seminars for real enthusiasts and private parties can hire the lounge for events). To accompany your cigar, you can choose from the selection of quality spirits they can also advise on what will complement your smoke. Drinks range from fine rums to brandy, and they have over 150 whiskies from around the world. Art works and coffee table books add to an ambience of exclusive sophistication. The venue runs monthly promotions on cigars for those keen on a bargain, and you should keep an eye out for special events: these not only include whisky and wine tastings, but visits from experts who can tell you everything you need to know about hand-rolling a cigar. The Tallinn outlet is part of an international chain but doesn’t feel at all corporate there’s real enthusiasm and knowledge on display here, making The Oak Lounge a not-to-be-missed gem.
