When the tagline of your bar contains the word “notorious”, you know your customers in for a good time. Gaspar’s Grotto (the “notorious pirate bar”), is a large bar, restaurant and party venue in Tampa, Florida’s Ybor City district, that goes all-out with its pirate theme – something that draws both locals and holidaymakers alike in droves. Featuring a “grotto” (indoor bar, and home to the town’s legendary $2 beer and a shot combo), a “galley” (live music venue, serving gallons – yes, literally – of cocktails) and a “sandbar” (outdoor party lounge and terrace with bottle service and DJ booth), Gaspar’s Grotto is a one-stop-shop when it comes to nights out. Of course, Gaspar’s Grotto has a slightly tamer side too – come during the day and you can get your hands on some tasty American and Cuban food, along with swashbuckling (see what we did there?) seafood dishes like crawfish boils and crab & shrimp quesadillas. Even into the wee hours, the bar serves up late night snacks and hot wings, to accompany the bevy of beers on tap. As for cocktails, Gaspar’s Grotto is proud of its homemade sangria – either red or white, muddled with fresh fruit and spices – served up by the pitcher, as well some fruity concoctions with sea-roving names, like the South Seas Rampage (coconut rum, melon schnapps, blue curacao and pineapple juice) and the Gaspar’s Gawanger (gin, orange liqueur, pineapple juice, ginger ale and a squeeze of lemon).
